AEW Does Not Want To Work With CM Punk?

There were rumors a few months ago about CM Punk possibly signing with AEW. Those rumors were shot down by Punk in an interview with ESPN. In that interview, he took shots at AEW by basically saying AEW was using him by mentioning his name in interviews.

No. I know they like to talk about me a lot. If I text Matt Jackson, “Hey, have a great show tonight,” which I did when they had their big show in Vegas, that somehow turns into Tony Khan telling people he has a great relationship with me. I’ve said in the past I’ve talked to them, but nothing ever came of anything.

They do videos where they talk about me. They’re constantly talking about me in the media. And again, maybe this sounds like I’m badgering them, but I’m not. It’s just something that happens. I’m a popular guy to talk about. But I’m not doing interviews talking about them. If people ask me about it, I say no, I won’t be there.

He also called them out for offering him a contract via text message.

The last thing I got — I got a text from Cody [Rhodes]. And again, I almost don’t even know how to reply to them sometimes, because if I reply, they do interviews and are like, “Oh yeah, I just talked to Punk.” I’m kind of damned if I do, damned if I don’t. I always think if somebody wants to do business with me, they can come talk to me. Texting offers isn’t really a way to do good business, at least.

CM Punk was clearly not too happy with AEW, now it is being reported by Dave Meltzer that AEW felt disrespected by Punk’s comments and they don’t ever want to work with Punk.

“It was pretty much told to me that [AEW] would never [sign Punk] they felt very disrespected by what he said and they should have.”

In an interview with Collider Live, Cody Rhodes discussed the comments that Punk made in his interview with ESPN. Cody also said something totally different from Meltzer. He said he would be open to working with Punk, because fans still want him back.

“He did kind of make us look like dumbasses, saying we sent him a text offer. I’m sure we texted him, but we also called him. Someone also met him in a coffee shop. We made genuine effort but in this case in 2019, he spent quite some time away from the ring, we gotta focus on who really wants to be on board with us versus going out and finding someone who perhaps doesn’t want to be part of this.

Rhodes later went on to say this.

“If he ever wanted to be part of this and had the passion to come back to wrestling, that door is always open. No ego, no situation would ever prevent us from having him come in because the fans have never given up on Punk. Ever. It’s crazy.”

Do you think we will see Punk ever wrestle again? And do you want to see him on WWE’s FS1 Show?
