Drew McIntyre Reveals Origin Of His Name
Drew McIntyre has been a fixture of WWE at the start of the decade, as well as at the end of the decade. While he is in the midst of his second run right now, McIntyre entered the WWE with a lot of hype, which he failed to live up to in his first run. McIntyre however was going to use his real name, and the name he uses on the indies, Drew Galloway at the start. However, an executive decision by Stephanie McMahon changed the creative direction, as McIntyre told WWE’s Break It Down.
“Stephanie McMahon says to me and Michael Hayes, ‘Is Drew Galloway your real name?’ I said yeah, she said ‘uhh… we’re gonna need to change that.’ I’m on in legitimately two matches, maybe ten minutes max.”
“So, myself and Michael Hayes ran to talent relations and he told them to bring up Wikipedia and a list of Scottish names. We went from A all the way through and listened to these names with a very limited time frame to get a new name. We went all the way until McDonald first which he liked, I went, ‘Nope, I know a McDonald, that can’t be it.’”
It is unclear how everyone arrived on the name McIntyre, but it definitely is better than McDonald.
