Ratings War: Who won?
There are rough projections for which show won the first week of the ratings war. Most projections indicate that AEW have won the ratings war in their first meeting. Dave Meltzer said that he had access to the numbers from PlayStation Vue and reported that AEW had over 3 times the viewers that NXT had on that platform.
On Google Trends, AEW had 140,000 searches while NXT was under 20,000. However, these numbers are anything but final, as casual viewers could have turned into both shows without adding to any of the aforementioned metrics. Good start for AEW, though.
The numbers according to The Wrap have AEW bringing in 1.49 million viewers, while NXT brought in 891,000 viewers.
Also, WWE congratulated AEW on their debut.
“Congratulations to AEW on a successful premiere. The real winners of last night’s head-to-head telecasts of NXT on USA Network and AEW on TNT are the fans, who can expect Wednesday nights to be a competitive and wild ride as this is a marathon, not a one-night sprint.”WWE
