What Happened With Vince McMahon At Rocky Johnson’s Funeral
Rocky Johnson was one of the few titans of wrestling alive from the early days of the sport. Not only was Johnson the figurehead of the Anoa’I Family, which has given us WWE wrestlers like Roman Reigns, The Usos, Rikishi and The Rock, among many others. Rocky Johnson was The Rock’s father, with Rock taking his dad’s ring name at the start of his career, going by ‘Rocky Maivia’ before he changed his name upon a bigger spot on the card.
Rocky Johnson was not only a legend for the wrestling business, he was a legend within the WWE too, wrestling for the company from 1982 to 1985. After his short stint turned into retirement, Rocky Johnson held multiple roles in the WWE. He trained his son into becoming a wrestler at the behest of Pat Patterson and even appeared on-screen with a young Rocky Maivia. He served as trainer for OVW too. Most notably, Rocky Johnson along with Tony Atlas became the first black champions in the WWE, when they won the tag championships in 1983. Despite all these impressive accomplishments, Chairman of the WWE Vince McMahon and close friend to Rocky Johnson, Pat Patterson decided not to speak about this at Johnson’s funeral and instead drew all the attention to themselves when it was a day to honour the late great wrestler. We are the Wrestling Hub and today we will be talking about What Happened With Vince McMahon At Rocky Johnson’s Funeral.
At the funeral of Rocky Johnson, Vince McMahon along with Pat Patterson weren’t at their best behavior. With members of the wrestling fraternity present, McMahon went on to speak on the mic to honor the former tag champion. However, after getting the mic, Vince McMahon just chose to make a series of inappropriate comments. He delivered this speech at a funeral like he was inside the ring delivering a promo, doing the trademark billionaires strut on the stage as he spoke. He joked about Rocky Johnson’s personal life, saying that the best thing that Rocky ever did was have children with Ata, neglecting all the accomplishments he has had while working for his company. Be it training one of the greatest wrestlers of all time in The Rock or his ground-breaking title win, especially a few days after MLK Day.
Pat Patterson wasn’t one to be outdone by Vince, as the pair decided that this very serious funeral may be better served to be a stand-up comedy gig. Patterson may have caused a bigger rumble (no pun intended) than what Vince did, with people present at the event even speculating if Patterson is on the verge of senility. Patterson’s mic had to be cut as he kept talking for too long, with his last sentence being ‘Last night I was drunk and I was drinking water or what I thought was in the sink and then the toilet seat fell on my head.’
Both men have been speculated to be under the influence of alcohol for the event, clearly having a hard time dealing with the very real situation in front of it. Call it age or whatever, this behavior doesn’t reflect well on the company. The Anoa’I family is reportedly unbothered by the scene, despite funeral goers being a little ruffled with the situation.
