Best WrestleMania Tag Team Title Matches Of All Time

Sami Zayn & Kevin Owens Win Tag Titles - WrestleMania 39

Let’s set the stage here. We’re going to look at specifically the best WrestleMania tag team title matches. This means we’ll be sticking with the two-person tag team concept, which means 6-man tag team matches or more will not count. This dismisses those that might involve celebrities. We’ll be centering around those where gold was on the line. There are quite a few great tag matches that took place here, as well as some bad ones. We want to highlight the pure best!

This article won’t be a ranked list, as some of these were far better than others. It would also not be fair to rank specific matches like these that are separated by an entire generation. Taste and what we find compelling will change during our lives. While this list might include some very notable tag teams, it’ll also involve others that you might not know very well. This is why rankings here are a bit difficult.

Without further ado, let’s get started discussing the best WrestleMania Tag Team Title matches of all time.

CAMP CORNETTE (OWEN HART & YOKOZUNA) vs THE SMOKING GUNNS: WRESTLEMANIA XI

Owen Hart & Yokozuna - WrestleMania 11

This match narrowly makes the list. It’s a good match and if we’re looking at the best WrestleMania tag team title matches, this can be included. It gets bonus points because this ends a streak of WrestleMania where the tag match kinda sucked. Seriously, there were a ton of tag matches in early WrestleMania events that were pretty much just trying to include as many stars as possible. There was no real focus on having a great tag team contest.

If for nothing else, this is worth a rewatch just to see Owen Hart. When he was working, he was one of the most underrated wrestlers. Of course, the entire Hart Family were known as amazing technicians but Owen was the little brother and did not get the same praise as Bret. This match gives you some glimpses of why he was criminally underrated for so long. They had just enough time, and both Hart and Yokozuna make a wonderful odd couple in the match.

TEAM HELL NO vs BIG E. LANGSTON & DOLPH ZIGGLER: WRESTLEMANIA XXVIII

Team Hell No - WrestleMania 38

Team Hell No was always fun. Kane & Daniel Bryan really were incredibly entertaining, and a lot of their tag team matches were just as good. At this point, too, Team Hell No was incredibly hot. It is also wild to go back and watch an incredibly young Big E. who still had a surname. While this match was pretty good, it was not given a ton of time. If it had been given a little more, it might have been a 5-star classic due to the four men involved being capable of this.

It’s a common theme to see tag matches that last under 10 minutes in WrestleMania history. That does not mean the best WrestleMania tag team title matches always need to have 20 to 30 minutes to be great. However, they were given slightly more than 6 minutes to put on a fantastic performance. That was a bit small compared to other matches on this card.

Dolph Ziggler & Big E. were also flanked by AJ Lee, who was rising the ranks in WWE herself. She’d end up having a big year after splitting from Ziggler.

NIKOLAI VOLKOFF & THE IRON SHEIK vs BARRY WINDHAM & MIKE ROTUNDO: WRESTLEMANIA I

Iron Sheik, Nikolai Volkoff, and Freddie Blassie - WrestleMania 1

All things considered, this was a pretty good match. Again, early WrestleMania tag team matches were not always that good. We also have to consider important stuff. Like how these early matches were not going to be 5-star mat classics like we might see in 2024. This was about star power and to help get two big tag teams some spotlight to hopefully help WWE for the rest of the year.

Weirdly, this match was likely the second-best match on the WrestleMania I card. We’d call this a throwback match today, but at the time it was just how it was. To see four meaty men taking hard bumps and shots at each other. Let’s put it this way, people still thought wrestling was real for the most part. If you watched this match, you’d be convinced they were not faking anything. That’s how great it was. It was well-paced, had a solid story, and even a title change.

Plus, it was highly entertaining. We cannot ask for much better.

OWEN HART & THE BRITISH BULLDOG vs MANKIND & VADER: WRESTLEMANIA XIII

Owen Hart & British Bulldog vs Mankind & Vader - WrestleMania 13

We referenced how underrated Owen Hart was, and yet again he proves how great he can be. This time, he teams with his brother-in-law, the British Bulldog, to face off with Mankind & Vader. These men could not be more different, which made for an excellent contest. Of course, you don’t need teams exactly like this to have one of the best WrestleMania tag team title matches. It helps though.

There are 4 legitimate Hall of Fame men in the ring here. The match had excellent pacing, and both Mick Foley & Owen Hart sold impressively well. The one thing that might hold this back if we did rank the matches, is the finish. It ended in a double count out. That is an odd choice, especially for a Wrestlemania tag title match. One would often want to have a definitive conclusion. If one team came out on top, we’d likely see this match on most top tag team lists.

This type of thing was not uncommon to see in the 1990s, as Vince McMahon felt he could utilize finishes like this to drive people to his television product. Sadly, this marketing decision ends up hurting the matches like these historically.

THE FUNK BROTHERS vs THE JUNKYARD DOG & TITO SANTANA: WRESTLEMANIA II

Funk Brothers & Tito Santana - WrestleMania 2

This slightly edges out the WrestleMania I tag title match. We often forget that after the larger WrestleMania I card, Vince slimmed things down to make WrestleMania II a bigger deal with longer matches. That was why this match was given a huge amount of time it may or may not have needed. What often stands out to many is how Terry Funk is selling his butt off when Junkyard Dog punches him.

The crowd loved Junkyard Dog and Tito Santana, so everything they did seemed to get a positive reaction. The match is overall, kind of chaotic. There are several nearfalls and even a lot of action outside the ring. It is a match that might feel out of place in today’s WWE, but it still worked. The managers, who are also rarer than they used to be in WWE, were also a solid asset to this match. They kept the action moving, where there was something always going on without any lull period.

They took a lot of time to tell a really fun story. We cannot hate this match at all, and we highly recommend you check it out when you can. It truly is one of the best WrestleMania tag team title matches of all time.

TEAM ANGLE vs [REDACTED] & RHYNO vs LOS GUERREROS: WRESTLEMANIA XIX

WWE Tag Team Title Match - WrestleMania 19

We at the Wrestling Hub are not a fan of discussing specific people. However, we cannot ignore when a match is excellent and needs to be referenced. It should not surprise anyone that this is on our list. Despite the obvious issues with [Redacted] in the match, we have six highly capable performers who were given less than 10 minutes to put on an excellent match.

We had Chavo & Eddie Guerrero along with Shelton Benjamin & Charlie Haas, those four men alone could kill it. Adding in [Redacted] & Rhyno, we had a recipe for an all-time classic. To the shock of no one, this match had excellent in-ring psychology and good old-fashioned wrestling. There is nothing else to say here, as it’s terrific and deserves recognition for that.

THE NASTY BOYS vs THE HART FOUNDATION: WRESTLEMANIA VII

Nasty Boyz vs Hart Foundation - WrestleMania 7

It should not be shocking to see Bret Hart on another “Best of” WrestleMania list. While The Nasty Boys were never known as in-ring geniuses, the Hart Foundation could probably make anyone look good. Honestly, this match should be an example of that. The Nasty Boys should be given some credit here as they delivered when many probably thought that couldn’t hang with the Hart Foundation at all.

The four men were given around 12 minutes and they used every second of it to tell a great story. The Hart Foundation was so smooth in the ring, adding a nice mix of power & precision. Bret can switch between either it seems, just proving how fluid he was as an in-ring performer. The Nasty Boys played the bully role in this match and did a great job of it. They would kick Hart and Jim Neidhart when they were down and used their power to try and intimidate and force THF to use up their energy.

The heel role the Nasty Boys offered made people really want to get behind the Hart Foundation. This became such a big deal that it made the ending of the match even bigger when the Hart Foundation lost their tag titles. This is one of the few matches from this era that could hold up and still be seen today in WWE.

CACTUS JACK & CHAINSAW CHARLIE vs THE NEW AGE OUTLAWS: WRESTLEMANIA XIV

Cactus Jack and Road Dogg - WrestleMania 14

Terry Funk was in his Chainsaw Charlie phase at this point while Mick Foley became Cactus Jack again. They were the perfect foes for the New Age Outlaws, a young team built on being heavily entertaining and using showman work in the ring. The style differences here already made this a must-see match.

The only issue here was the time given. We have a Cactus Jack character that Mick Foley could still play at a high level, so he did not mind going absolutely nuts in this match. For the Outlaws, he was terrifying to deal with as he was unlike anything they had faced before. Add in that he is flanked by Fuck, who is already known for his insane hardcore style, and the Outlaws knew they were in trouble.

It was a brutal match, even if it was pretty quick. Yet these men made the match make sense with great psychology. A match like this makes you really appreciate what Foley & Funk brought to the table. If you have not seen this match, we highly recommend it. It truly is one of the best WrestleMania tag team matches of all time.

ALEXA BLISS & NIKKI CROSS vs THE KABUKI WARRIORS: WRESTLEMANIA XXXVI

Alexa Bliss & Nikki Cross vs Kabuki Warriors - WrestleMania 36

If you were not paying attention in 2020, you would have missed this sneaky awesome match. While we are not in the business of crediting the Pandemic for anything, we think one good part about it was WWE finally understanding they need to let things breathe. This allowed us to have a two-night WrestleMania where each match was given much more time than they would have normally been given otherwise.

One of those that might have gotten 3 to 5 minutes was this match between Alexa Bliss & Nikki Cross vs the Kabuki Warriors. Instead, the match was given 15 minutes to shine for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles. We all know how good Asuka & Kairi Sane are but Bliss & Cross stepped up to make this impressive. Bliss is known for being a solid singles wrestler but really embraced the tag scene with Cross.

Bliss had learned how to make everything feel impactful and important. Someone of her size knows how to sell being rag-dolled, but she also showed she could sell well for people like Sane who is close to the same size. While would have liked for the Kabuki Warriors to retain, Cross & Bliss won and had a ton of fun stuff take place with their respective characters for the rest of 2020. Therefore, we cannot be too upset about the result.

THE HARDYS vs BIG CASS & ENZO AMORE vs CESARO & SHEAMUS vs THE CLUB: WRESTLEMANIA XXXIII

Hardys - WrestleMania 33 Return

Going into this match, we were told we’d have a triple threat tag team title match. Gallows & Anderson (then known as The Club) would battle Enzo Amore & Big Cass as well as Cesaro & Sheamus (The Bar). This match was also going to be a ladder match, making things a lot more exciting. However, right before the bell rang, the hosts of WrestleMania that year, the New Day, came out. They claimed this match had now been changed to a fatal fourway.

They were selling the idea that they added themselves to the match and began to walk toward the ring. New Day did not get too far before the infamous Hardy Boyz theme hit the loudspeakers. The place went nuts as Matt & Jeff Hardy came out to join the match. One could argue that the Hardys did not need to win this match. Before the show, most assumed Enzo & Cass were the favorites to win the match.

However, Matt & Jeff are ladder match professionals and displayed that knowledge by knowing exactly what to do. This match hit us with a ton of adrenaline when Matt & Jeff came out and that high did not stop until the end of the match. Looking back, it was not the best WrestleMania tag team title match of all time. However, it still was impressive and worthy of discussion.

THE USOS vs ALEISTER BLACK & RICOCHET vs RUSEV & SHINSUKE NAKAMURA vs THE BAR: WRESTLEMANIA XXXV

WrestleMania 35 Tag Team Title Match

Tag matches had sort of fallen off for a bit, across WWE. This meant we needed a shot in the arm to get something to help the tag division, and this match helped to provide that. It went on earlier in the night, making it much easier for fans to cheer for as they were not too tired by the time it started. This particular WrestleMania was incredibly long, so the earlier matches had a much better spot compared to the later matches. Normally, you want to main event or co-main event WrestleMania.

Yet WWE seemed to want to overstack this event. This match lucked out by going on early. The issue was that WWE was trying to put makeshift tag teams together just to make something happen. This is why Aleister Black & Ricochet as well as Rusev & Shinsuke Nakamura are together in tag teams. The funny thing is that these pairings worked for a match like this. Black and Ricochet were great here, probably better than most remember.

We should not forget about The Bar in this match, as they were probably the anchors of the whole thing. That just shows how far they came as a tag team and were trusted to anchor a match even over The Usos. While The Usos did retain their tag titles, this match was very good and shows these multi-team tag matches can be chaotic but so much fun to watch.

RK-BRO vs ALPHA ACADEMY vs THE STREET PROFITS: WRESTLEMANIA 38

Riddle Hits RKO on Montez Ford - WrestleMania 38

You really cannot hate this match at all. Randy Orton had some back issues and forming a tag team with Matt Riddle was a great chance for The Viper to take some pressure off himself. Riddle and Orton were so opposite from each other but also very similar, with each rubbing off on the other. Riddle even adopted using the RKO in honor of Orton. In this match, we had the Alpha Academy and Street Profits, both great tag teams that RK-Bro could have fallen to easily.

The chemistry of Riddle and Orton in this match was off the charts. Yet the Profits also knew exactly when and where to make an incredible impact, especially Montez Ford. Their high-energy and high-flying craziness helped to make this match fun. Meanwhile, we’d see Chad Gable mat wrestling like a legend and showing amazing power within his technical wrestling.

Probably the highlight of the match was the ending section. Riddle is knocked to the outside of the ring by Angelo Dawkins, and he sets up Orton with a spinebuster so that Ford can hit his frog splash. Riddle then comes out of nowhere and jumps to the top to catch Ford to hit him with an RKO from the top rope. Seriously, we cannot say enough about this match. It is easily one of the best WrestleMania tag team title matches of all time, without question.

CHRISTIAN & EDGE vs THE DUDLEY BOYS vs THE HARDY BOYZ: WRESTLEMANIA XVI

Edge & Christian Retain Tag Team Titles - WrestleMania 16

If you are a professional wrestling fan of a certain age, this was truly THE tag team match of your childhood. It completely stole the show at a time in history when risk-taking and brutal matches were at their peak. The thing is, the pain these wrestlers went through could not be faked. What you were seeing was legitimate pain, which made teens and kids think for a second… “but I thought this was supposed to be fake.”

This was a ladder match, which helped to elevate this match type massively. Razor Ramon & Shawn Michaels may have had the first, but these guys took things to an entirely different level.  Jeff Hardy was an absolute maniac in this match. There was not an insane bump he would not take. Edge did not mind going for the big shot and both Bubba Ray & D-Von were happy to get as brutal as possible. However, they were old ECW guys, so no surprise there.

WWE gave this match a ton of time, 23 minutes to be exact. However, you could have given these guys 20 minutes more and we’d still be glued. This was one of the best WrestleMania tag team title matches ever, without a doubt. It was such a good match that the people in it thought they’d never top it. Funny enough, they’d do just that the following year.

CHRISTIAN & EDGE vs THE DUDLEY BOYZ vs THE HARDY BOYZ: WRESTLEMANIA XVII

Edge Spears Jeff Hardy - WrestleMania 17

While The Rock and “Stone Cold” Steve Austin probably truly stole this show as the main event that lived up to the spot, this tag match was most certainly one of the best matches on the card outside of the main event itself. It seems that someone in the WWE Creative Department thought, hey…we had this great TLC match last year. What if we run it back with the same teams? Better yet, each team has a third person that helps them out so let’s have them come out during the match too.

The men nearly murdered each other in an attempt to top the year prior. They upped the craziness in this one. Last year, they had a ladder match, and really ladders are Hardy territory. Meanwhile, the Dudleys love a good table while Edge & Christian are masters with chairs. This led then-WWE Commissioner Mick Foley to create a tables, ladders, and chairs match…oh my!!

All three teams went as crazy as you might have assumed. Tables were stacked all over the place, insane bumps, chairs were used in a crazy fashion, and so much more. The match was given about 15 minutes and these guys made the most of every single second. It was a non-stop rush of adrenaline the entire time. There might have been less time here, but that seemed to only add to the violence.

KEVIN OWENS & SAMI ZAYN vs THE USOS: WRESTLEMANIA XXXIX

Sami Zayn & Jey Uso In WrestleMania Tag Team Title Match - WM39

When we were searching for the best WrestleMania tag team matches of all time, we struggled with some. However, one match that was an easy number one was this match. The Usos vs Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn main evented Night #1 of WrestleMania XXXIX for a good reason. It hit everything one could possibly want. There was an incredible story going into the match, we had best friends versus brothers, and we needed to see someone finally end the reign of terror The Usos possessed as tag champs.

The Bloodline needed to take a hit and both Owens & Zayn were going to try to do that. The match gave us great in-ring competition with excellent psychology that could not have been better. The Usos had incredible timing as always, with pin break-ups coming sometimes out of nowhere to stay alive.

While brothers are normally better tag teams because of how well they know each other, Owens & Zayn have been teaming together off and on for most of their respective careers. Technically, they have been tagging longer than The Usos professionally. They knew each other and what the other needed just as well as The Usos knew this about each other.

Sami Zayn betrayed the Bloodline to save his friend, Kevin. He refused to allow the selfishness of Reigns to end his friend’s career and possibly life. He had a near win over Reigns in Montreal a month prior. Zayn refused to let the Bloodline continue to wreak havoc on anyone again. To do this, you need to take some power away and that is just what Owens & Zayn did by winning the tag titles on this night. It’s one of the best storylines heading into a Wrestlemania we’ve ever seen.
